This was Scott's question, plopped on our laps at some point during our day today. It was an important reminder about the edges - where do they touch from the perspective of the student? If the learner is at the center, than how do all the containers (PLP's, jumprope, learning targets, portfolios, google classroom) support student learning? This idea fueled most of our conversations today.
We had the opportunity to meet with Gary from Protean, and again revisited the idea of personalization. What does that look like with this system? The key elements of Protean are awesome - linking specific evidence to the goals, and reflecting on progress support students in owning the process.
Wendy and I had a chance to meet and review some of our team ideas and goals, and upon meeting with Lindsey had some significant aha's! Here is what we euphorically left with today:
- Reestablish the heart of Alpha - what is at our core, and how can that live in such a way that teachers AND students know that all we do is in service of those core values?
- How can project based learning be implemented in an authentic way to honor student voice in service of the three pillars?
- What is/can be an overarching theme for the year that will allow kids to see connections to our integrated themes?
I feel rejuventated and revitalized! I am excited about the possibility of this as a research project and more importantly as a way to restore our team!!
